The AI feature I didn’t know I needed until now
Published 20 days ago • 4 min read
Hi Reader,
This week I had a chance to have a little fun with AI, outside of my usual business use-case experimenting...which, if I'm being honest, is also totally fun to me.
After a rocky launch, GPT-5 is smoothing out with new features:
Modes: Switch between Auto, Fast, and Thinking. Thinking is capped at 3,000 messages per week but gives the deepest reasoning.
Personality: The default GPT-5 tone now feels warmer and more approachable.
Pro tip: I’d make Thinking your default—it consistently gives stronger answers. Add “think deeply and think long” to prompts for even better results.
Connectors: Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts now work inside ChatGPT—you can check email, view schedules, and send messages without leaving.
Customization: Five new personalities are available under Customize ChatGPT.
Models: Older models like o3 can be re-enabled in Settings.
Playground controls: Fine-tune Reasoning Effort and Verbosity for more control over answer depth and style.
Claude’s Socratic-style Learning Mode is now available to everyone, not just education accounts. Instead of handing you answers, it walks you through problems step by step so you actually learn. Developers also get a new Explanatory Mode in Claude Code, where Claude narrates its reasoning while solving coding challenges.
Gemini’s Deep Think mode just became more powerful with higher rate limits. You can now run longer reasoning tasks and more complex projects without constant interruptions, making it far more practical for detailed research, strategy, or multi-step problem solving.
Meta is rolling out AI translations globally for creators, starting with English ↔ Spanish. If you post content across audiences, this makes your reach instantly broader without extra work.
Google Docs Lets You Listen to Your Documents Using Gemini AI You can now have Google Docs read your documents aloud—thanks to a new Gemini‑powered audio feature. Simply go to Tools → Audio → “Listen to this tab” and a floating, movable player appears, complete with controls like play/pause, scrubber, adjustable speed, and a choice of expressive voice styles (Narrator, Educator, Teacher, Persuader, Explainer, Coach, Motivator). If you’re sharing a doc, you can embed a customized audio button via Insert → Audio buttons, making it easy for anyone to listen with a click. This feature improves accessibility and productivity by helping you absorb content better, review more efficiently, and catch writing mistakes you might otherwise miss. It’s available now on desktop for users on Google AI Pro, Ultra, and select Google Workspace plans—though it only supports English for the time being.

Prompt of the Week
Prompt:
Write a persuasive and engaging marketing email targeted at [recipient, e.g., a prospective client] that promotes [product or service] in a way that speaks directly to their specific goals, challenges, or industry needs. The email should begin with a strong hook to capture attention, followed by a clear and compelling explanation of the product's most valuable features and benefits—especially those that solve a known problem or deliver a meaningful improvement. Incorporate social proof, success metrics, or real-world use cases if relevant, and maintain a tone that is confident, professional, and customer-centric throughout. Conclude the email with a clear, actionable, and motivating call to action that encourages the recipient to take the next step—such as booking a demo, starting a free trial, or scheduling a call.

Just keep in mind that Anthropic will begin training Claude on user data starting September 28 unless you opt out—so it’s worth checking your settings. Meanwhile, Gemini is booking restaurant reservations, ChatGPT is stepping into full assistant mode, and Google Translate now doubles as a language tutor. I...
